Some films have been rated as to their corset-visibility, using little 's.
One denotes little corsetry, while is a VERY GOOD corset-film.
Films with "lacing" scenes are denoted with "Lacing".
Films with corsets UNDER gowns only are denoted with "Gowns".
Obviously, these ratings have little to do with a critical evaluation of the film itself.

2016----Lacing LADY McBETH (FLORENCE PUGH) - Still Clip
Here is a transcript I made:
Lots of my preparation was completely down to the costume,
and down to the corset. When I first had my costume fitting, Holly Waddington,
who was the costume designer, put me in a corset and was putting all
these original garments on me, and I was quite excited about corsets, because as a kid I always wanted to go into clothes or into acting or performing, so I was always excited about materials and how things worked – and I was like, “Yeah, I’m
going to be in a corset, it’s amazing!” And I’ve always thought that corsets were great – they are really beautiful and a work of art – and I remember asking Holly all these questions about the corset, and she’s pulling me in it, and [she gives a
huge gasp] – and realising that it was a different type of breath, and about an hour into my fitting I got these awful back pains – really, really awful. And they made a corset for me, so it was for my body and it was obviously made with modern
‘give’, so that I wasn’t strapped in with whalebones, which is what they were originally made from. But I started realising that you are completely caged in your clothes, especially in all the big dresses and all the big crinolines. That was the
point. And I noticed that when you’re in those corsets, and when you’re in those dresses, if you eat you use breathing space to fill your stomach with food, so you end up becoming silent, and I would only realise this when I was doing it. And it’s so
interesting because when women go on about wearing corsets, it is completely true: you cannot breathe, and if you are to do anything – you have to have someone to go to the loo with you, let alone help to bend over to put your shoes on. So I
just found that fascinating, and if I knew that I didn’t like wearing the corset then you can sure bet that Catherine [her character] hated wearing the dresses. So we started putting that into the script – we started making sure that
whenever Catherine was in a corset she wasn’t as free, she wasn’t as creative, and whenever the boys would leave home, she’s either in a nightie or a dressing gown or she’s naked, and being as happy as Larry; and eating – I wanted her to be
eating when she wasn’t in a corset. So that played a massive part in my preparation, because it does affect absolutely everything. You walk differently, you talk differently.

"Set in 1920, it is about three sisters, one of whom works as a corsetiere and
occasional corset model. Publicity photos
in TV listings magazines show all three sisters (played by the actresses listed
above) wearing corsets. In addition, actress Georgia Taylor, who guest stars in the first episode is quoted as saying:
'Corsets are painful! Being winched into one is so uncomfortable - I got really bad backache.'" -- Charles S. MTV magazine cover Inside article
|1940----LILLIAN RUSSELL (ALICE
Miss Faye: "To give me an hourglass figure, the studio laced me up in an old ironsides that shrunk my waist from 26 to 20 inches." According to an article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
for 19 February 1940 about the making of this film, the extras who were playing the chorus girls were laced so tightly in their corsets that four of them quit after only one full day in
costume, saying they couldn't bear any more even for the $16.50 a day they were being paid (which must have been a pretty good wage in 1940). Those who carried on found they had to
be extremely careful during the lunch breaks. The studio supplied them with generous amounts of food but due to the constriction of their stomachs they couldn't eat a thing unless they
loosened their corsets. However, they found that the looser the corset the hungrier they felt and the more they wanted to eat, and the more they ate the more they suffered when they
had to be laced back up again. One of them said she "almost fainted" when two costume assistants started pulling on her laces in an effort to get her waist back down to the required size
after she had eaten too much lunch. She explained: "I wasn’t hungry, until I loosened my corset, and then I was ravenous... Now I don’t know what to do. I’m not a bit hungry. I couldn’t eat
a bite. That’s on account of the corset. If I untie it, I know I’ll eat, and then I’ll be sunk."

HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE-- TVS (VARIED)
In one episode, pretty young Nellie Oleson's stout mother Harriet has ordered a new dress, but was ashamed to order her own size, so she has bought a new corset to help her get into it.
Nellie tries everything she can to lace her mother tightly enough while trying to get on with the cooking for the diner next door. Finally she resorts to bracing her foot in her mother's back,
and pulls so hard that the laces snap - precipitating Harriet through the doorway into the diner.

While the other sisters (Watson, Florence Pugh, and Eliza Scanlen) wear corsets, Jo does not, giving her more room to slouch and stride, to run and to man-spread. Information
Amy is also the only March sister to consistently wear the proper corset, especially notable when she's the chosen one to accompany wealthy Aunt March (Meryl Streep) to Paris to
refine her ladylike painting skills — and find a husband to replenish the family funds.
2003----THE LIZZIE McGUIRE MOVIE (HILARY DUFF)
Somewhere around the middle of the film, Ms. Duff is trying on the latest
fashion, and appears
in a few tight gowns. One special green one is at the least a light corset – it
is doing the
customary with Hilary Duff’s chest that is seen in corsets similar to the one in Shakespeare in Love (I don’t know my corsets enough to say what type). She spends a couple minutes of screen
time in this dress.

Set in the early 1900s. About 45 minutes in the movie there is a
lovely scene of Jennifer Dale and one of the
other actresses in their corsets in a hotel room. The
costuming in the movie was
great especially some of the gowns worn by Miss Dale and, from some angles, it would appear that she was corsetted. -- Review by John. H.
