Lula speaks:
How and why I started wearing corsets: For many years I have been plagued by off and on back problems, due mostly to the size of my breasts. I also was becoming increasingly more unhappy with the shape of my body. At the suggestion of my husband, I began looking into corsetry. As I did my research online, especially on the LISA website, which has the most information about corsetry from any website I have found, I began to learn more about corsetry, and admired the photos of people wearing corsets and how elegant they looked. I looked at photos of ladies from Victorian times through today who wear corsets. They stood up straight and tall, and seemed confident and proud of how they looked. And it was nice to see ladies of all ages looking beautiful, in their corsets. Soon thereafter, at a local fetish event that my husband and I attended, I purchased my first "real" corset with steel boning. It was off the rack, but the fit was not too bad. When I first saw myself in the mirror with this corset, I was amazed at how it changed the appearance of my body, I immediately liked how I looked in it.  It took some time for me to get used to it, but I was feeling better about my body. My back problems subsided, I had better posture, and it was nice to have a more pronounced hourglass figure. I noticed that I was getting so much positive attention from both women and men! I gained enough confidence about myself that I began modeling, then moved on to performing Burlesque. I just received my first C&S Constructions corset, and this is the best fitting corset I have purchased to date! I love the look and feel of their corsets and will be sure to post pictures of me wearing it as soon as I have them.
About Me: Part Retro, Part Goth, Part Witch...Just try to put me into a box!!  I like sewing, cooking, baking and other domestic duties (yes, I really am interested in the domestic arts!), all things retro -- mostly 50's, 60's, and 70's, Goth, Renaissance Festivals, tight-lace corseting, Burlesque, vintage and modern retro Pinup, antique stores, car shows, Halloween, volunteering at the Humane Society of Livingston County, taking care of my husband and "kids" (two dogs and two cats), running a business of online webstores.
Favorite Music: My musical tastes may seem strange to some because they are so varied. I could easily in one sitting listen to anything from Easy Listening to Gothic Industrial, Adult Contemporary, Oldies, Swing, Big Band, Lounge, Rockabilly, Bluegrass, Show tunes, Metal, New Age, Gothic, Celtic.
Favorite Movies: I love to watch old movies that I borrow from the library or see on Turner Classic Movies, and short films like those on the Prelinger Archives on or on Comcast OnDemand in the 'Something Weird' category. I enjoy classic movies, but have found some good newer movies that I like too: Titanic, Chicago, Casablanca, The Notorious Bettie Page, Walk The Line, The Glenn Miller Story, Faster Pussycat Kill! Kill!, The Matrix, Dances With Wolves, The Exorcist, The Omen, The Shining, Star Trek 4, Jaws, Dirty Harry, Harry Potter Movies, old horror movies -- especially those with Vincent Price, Ed Wood movies.
Favorite TV Shows: I haven't watched too many new shows lately. TV Land, TCM (Turner Classic Movies), Ghost Hunters, Charmed, Mad Men, True Blood, Arrested Development, Wonder Woman, Northern Exposure, Star Trek (the original and TNG), Sewing/Quilting shows on PBS, Twilight Zone. I love the convenience of Comcast onDemand, and they have some interesting categories I like, such as 'The Cutting Edge'/'Something Weird.' I have learned a lot about vintage Burlesque watching shows in that category.
Books:  I don't spend as much time reading as I would like. But I have enjoyed books by Kim Harrison, Kelley Armstrong, Marion Zimmer-Bradley, and of course Edgar Allen Poe. I loved the book Wicked by Gregory Maguire. And I liked Valley of the Dolls and Peyton Place. I have read various vintage pulp novels, and I am currently reading several books about the history of Burlesque.
